Positive Mental Health and Well Being
'Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.’ (World Health Organisation).
At Cloverlea Primary School, we believe that the development of positive Mental Health and Well-being of staff and pupils is essential in creating a happy and successful school community. We recognise that alongside physical health, it is a crucial factor in learning, caring, achieving and believing.
Growth/positive mindset is part of the school and classroom ethos.
Pupils are screened using 'Bounce Together'. Bounce is a platform for measuring physical and mental wellbeing and the attitudes of pupils and staff. It provides instant analysis to help find out what's really happening and enables us to develop a whole school approach to wellbeing. The surveys are specifically designed to spot attitudinal or emotional issues in children before they impact on school performance. This is used to help identify pupils who may be struggling and who would benefit from extra support or intervention strategies. Sometimes SDQ (The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire) might be used to gather more information from the child’s teacher and parents. For those children who require further support, the school may use the Boxall assessment tool.
The school uses the ‘Jigsaw’ scheme to deliver PSHE teaching. One of its main aims is to promote the ‘the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society’.
