Nursery 

In Nursery, we follow Little Wandle Foundations - it lays the best possible foundations in Nursery for Phase 2 phonics in Reception with nursery rhyme activities, phonological awareness and oral blending games.

Reception

In Reception, we begin to teach the children the sounds of the letters of the alphabet in our daily phonics lessons. The children are taught a range of sounds before being introduced to our reading practice sessions. Please see the programme progression for Reception below. 

Year 1

In Year 1, we begin the year by recapping on all the knowledge the children have learnt in the EYFS. Following this, the children are taught the graphemes in Phase 5. Please see the Phase 5 overview below for more information about which graphemes are taught and when.
