Internet Safety
Keeping our pupils safe online is very important to us. As you can imagine in the climate that we live in today, this can present challenges at times, but as a school we are happy and extremely confident that we have the resources, the systems, the teaching and the support that allow us to keep our pupils safe, whilst giving them the experiences in Computing that make them better and more confident users in the technology.
We ask that you help us in our quest to educate our pupils on the issues of internet safety and help them to become more knowledgeable and more resilient when using devices that hook them onto the World Wide Web. We know how challenging internet safety can be for a school and how it is equally challenging for you, as parents. Therefore we have provided some links below which provide useful and updated information on Computing Issues. We hope you will find these beneficial and allow you to help us, to help your child to become confident users of the internet and technology.
At Cloverlea
At school we take several steps to ensure that children are kept safe while using the internet, software and hardware. Some of the steps we take include:-
* Sophos Filter
This allows us to manage the pupils access to websites and block those that are not suitable.
* Supervision
When our pupils use the computers and the internet they are supervised at all times. Websites that the children use are also monitored.
* Education
The school ensures that children are educated on how to use the technology safely so that they can keep themselves safe.
* Smoothwall
To help achieve a safer digital learning environment with pioneering real-time, content-aware web filtering, alerting SLT if needed.
At Home
Parents can have a difficult job keeping up with their children on the fast changing technology available to them, let alone knowing the dangers they face. The issues of safety, privacy, reliability and cyberbullying are sometimes complex, both technically and psychologically and parents can struggle to keep up.
Please see below to find a list of useful resources online to tackle internet safety at home. Digital Parenting Website
The Digital Parenting page is a great resource that helps parents understand and talk to young people about the benefits and the challenges of our digital world. Growing up has never been easy, but today the virtual world presents a whole set of new risks. Young people live in an always-on, social, digital and connected world, and it's the only world they've known. We marvel at technology, yet to them it is the norm. While the internet brings amazing opportunities for young people to learn, create and socialize, it is our duty as adults to help them navigate this online world safely. Young people must recognize that every click, every post, every purchase and every photo we upload online leaves a digital footprint.
It is important to begin these conversations at an early age-to help set boundaries together and provide a clear understanding of when they are safe to explore and roam online freely. We all need to work together to educate children about staying safe online.

Helpful Parenting Checklist - there’s a lot to take in when it comes to your child’s digital world, so here’s a handy 10-point checklist to get you started.
-
Think about how you guide your family in the real world and do the same in the digital world (even if it sometimes feels like your son or daughter is the technology expert in your home!)
-
Have a go with some of the technologies your child enjoys - if you haven’t already, download some music, set up a Facebook® profile or play a game on their Nintendo® Wii
-
Talk to your friends and family (and the parents of your child’s friends) about how they help their children to manage their digital world - you might get some useful tips
-
Try not to use technology as your babysitter - we all do it sometimes but it’s important to know what they’re doing
-
Don’t be afraid to set boundaries and rules, especially for younger children - their online reputation will follow them forever so it’s never too young to start
-
Make the most of built-in tools, such as Parental Controls, SafeSearch options and privacy controls
-
Remind older siblings that certain websites and devices might not be appropriate for their younger brother or sister and ask them to look out for them
-
Make digital issues part of everyday conversation - don’t shy away from talking to teenagers about difficult subjects like cyberbullying, sexting and copyright infringement, for example
-
Keep communicating - show your child that you understand how important technology is to them and reassure them that they can come to you about anything that is worrying them in their digital world
